Development and validation of predictive behavioral models of fiber reinforced composites under fire loading.
Due to their low weight and high mechanical resistance, fiber reinforced composite materials are widely used in aerospace industry. Security and reliability are critical for the aerospace industry, requiring multiple test. Fire resistance is one of them.
Nowadays the knowledge of the behavior of these materials under fire load is limited to the application of a flame on a sample and see if the sample is traversed or not by the flame. For this reason, a different and more exhaustive view of the fire behavior of these materials is of great interest to the aeronautical industry.
LIR-Infrared LAB in collaboration with AIRBUS Fire Lab is developing, based on empirical measures, predictive behavioral models of fiber reinforced composites under fire loading. Also, thanks to the extensive infrared infrared equipment for non invasive testing in LIR-Infrared facilities, it is possible to validate the outcome of the test.
Goal is to develop a reliable tool to evaluate the behavior of composite materials under fire loading, looking for its improvement in each of the application required.
